Their teachings thread through the affirmation, gratitude, and practice that follow — and you are invited to tap each card to reveal its full letter when you arrive below.
Today, softly, the body offers the tender first small claiming — the quiet, steady decision to take up her own power, with a gentle hand rather than a clenched fist.
The sacred third morning gives the new cycle its first backbone. On the first day the light was kindled; on the second it went down to meet the heart in deep water. Today, with the crescent growing in the last degrees of Scorpio, the body is invited to claim what she found there — her feeling, her desire, her strength — as her own.
Claiming is not, faithfully, grabbing or forcing. She is the calm act of saying: this is mine to hold. It is Tuesday, Mars’s own day, and the Moon moves through Scorpio, the sign Mars ruled in the old tradition. Mars himself is in Leo with Jupiter. The affirmation names the practice: take up your power gently, the way the woman on the Strength card rests her hand on the lion.
Today, I give thanks for the quiet strength I already carry — every fear I have faced, every hard thing I have walked through, every time I stayed gentle when it would have been easier to harden.
Most of us underestimate our strength because it rarely looks dramatic. It looks like getting up, showing up, telling the truth, staying kind. Today’s gratitude is for that kind of strength — the everyday, unglamorous kind that has carried you this far.
The chronic cultural pull is to picture strength as hardness — armored, loud, unmoved. Today’s gratitude honors the older picture: strength as patience, steadiness, and a hand that can calm a wild thing without harming it.
Today’s Strength card carries this exactly — the sacred first-gentle-lioness-keeper standing barefoot in a green meadow, her white robe belted with a small garland of flowers, the sign of infinity glowing softly above her head, one hand resting gently on the lion’s brow and the other cupping its jaw, the great beast calm beneath her touch, a sprig of lavender woven into her garland, a mountain blue in the distance under a golden sky. She does not overpower the lion. She befriends it.
The rare embodied capacity for tender feminine strength — the body who can, softly, meet her own fierce energies with calm, and claim her power without fear or force.
The waxing crescent in Scorpio on Mars’s own Tuesday brings a particular invitation to the body: claim your energy. Anger, desire, ambition, longing — these are not problems to be managed. They are the lion. They are yours.
Mars and Jupiter both travel through Leo, the sign of the lion and the sign the Strength card belongs to. With so much fire in the lion’s sign and the Moon in Mars’s deep-water house, the body is asked to hold both heat and depth — to feel the fire fully and still keep a gentle hand.
The newly-begun cycle carries, faithfully, its first words: kindling → meeting → claiming. The flame was lit, the heart was met, and now the body takes up what is hers.
Today asks the body one small practice: allow one small claiming. One small desire spoken aloud. One small boundary held kindly. One small fear looked in the face.

Today the growing crescent moves through the last degrees of Scorpio, the sign Mars ruled in the old tradition, on Mars’s own Tuesday. Mars and Jupiter warm the lion’s sign of Leo. The young light is gathering strength in deep water — a day to claim your own power, gently.

Crescent Moon in Mars’s deep-water house on Mars-dayand the sacred geometry of the body’s tender first small claiming
The waxing crescent, now around 10–17% illuminated, moves through the later degrees of Scorpio today, having passed Mercury and left Venus behind. She will leave Scorpio for Sagittarius late tonight or in the early hours. The Sun rests at Libra 20°. After sunset, look for a clearer crescent low in the southwest.
Tuesday belongs to Mars, and before modern astronomy Scorpio was Mars’s night house — the place where his fire turned inward into intensity, focus, and endurance. Mars himself is now in Leo alongside Jupiter, so the fire is doubled: inner intensity in Scorpio, outer warmth and courage in Leo. Venus remains retrograde in Scorpio, keeping the heart honest.
Somatically: this can feel like a surge of energy, impatience, or desire — a heat in the belly or jaw, a readiness to act. The small fire that rises when something matters, the small tightening in the hands when a boundary is crossed, the small thrill of wanting something clearly. None of it needs to be suppressed. It needs only a gentle hand.
The sacred art the body practices today: not force, not suppression, just steady claiming. The Strength card teaches this exactly — the sacred first-gentle-lioness-keeper standing barefoot in a green meadow, her white robe belted with a small garland of flowers, the sign of infinity glowing softly above her head, one hand resting gently on the lion’s brow and the other cupping its jaw, the great beast calm beneath her touch, a sprig of lavender woven into her garland, a mountain blue in the distance under a golden sky. Her power is in her calm.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence
by every experience in which you really stop
to look fear in the face.
— Eleanor Roosevelt, You Learn by Living
Eleanor Roosevelt — born in New York City in 1884, who lost both parents before she was ten and grew up a shy, solemn child; who became the longest-serving First Lady of the United States, transforming the role into one of public advocacy; who after her husband’s death chaired the United Nations commission that drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948; and who died in 1962 at seventy-eight — wrote these words in You Learn by Living (1960), a small book of hard-won lessons published near the end of her life.
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. The line continues in her book with the advice to do the thing you think you cannot do. Roosevelt did not describe herself as naturally brave; she described herself as someone who had been afraid of almost everything and learned, one encounter at a time, that fear could be faced. Strength, in her telling, is not a trait you are born with. It is a practice.
Today’s Sacred First-Claiming lives in Roosevelt’s words directly. The woman on the Strength card is looking fear in the face — the lion’s face — and staying. Her strength did not come before the encounter. It came from it.
What part of your own power — a desire, a fire, a strength — have you been keeping at a distance, and what would it look like to rest your hand on it gently today and say, softly, this is mine?
Sometimes the tender first small claiming does not open easily. Many women were taught that wanting is selfish and that anger is dangerous, so the inner lion may feel too big to approach. The body’s soft first-claiming may feel like a risk.
Three softer entry-points into today’s question, each honoring the body’s own faithful pace:
- Lion door: if your own fierce energy were an animal resting beside you, what would it look like? Write a short description of it, with kindness.
- Gentle-hand door: think of one time you handled something difficult calmly. Write what you did with your hands, your voice, your breath.
- Fear door: name one small fear you could look in the face this week. Write it down — just naming it is the first step.
The tender first small claiming of the sacred first-gentle-lioness-keeper — five small acts of soft feminine strength, honored as the whole holy work of this sacred third morning of the newly-begun cycle, on Mars’s own venerated Tuesday.
Today’s medicine begins with the feet. Strength in the tarot is grounded, not lifted up. Planting the feet tells the nervous system that it is safe to feel strong energies without being knocked over by them.
The belly and jaw are where the body often holds anger and desire. Touching them gently is the gesture of the card — the woman’s hand on the lion’s brow and jaw. You are meeting your fire with tenderness, not fear.
Roosevelt’s teaching lives here: stopping to look fear in the face. Staying with strong feeling, without fleeing and without forcing, is how the body learns that its own power is safe to hold.
Claiming begins with naming. With Mars and Jupiter in Leo and the Moon in Scorpio, desire is a sacred fire today. Speaking it aloud, even to an empty room, is a small act of sovereignty.
The closing whisper seals the practice. Nothing further is required today — the small first-claiming allowed here is, faithfully, the whole practice, complete on its own tender terms, blessed by the Strength card’s gentle lioness-keeper on the third morning, as the crescent grows in Mars’s deep-water house.
